[SOLVED] Lightdm can't start

I've installed Deepin as DE on a new installation. The GPU is GTX 960m and I installed the nvidia proprietary drivers. When the linux starts, it just shows blackscreen with an underscore in the top left corner. Not sure which logs are needed so here are the lightdm logs.

Please post your lightdm.conf and what greeter you have installed.

Re: [SOLVED] Lightdm can't start

Tried but didn't work.. When I tried only with the mkinitcpio module even the underscore didn't appear.

Re: [SOLVED] Lightdm can't start

You can't just install the nvidia drivers on a laptop, decide if you want to use the power saving intel card and only use the nvidia card on an as needed basis, or forego powersaving and use the nvidia card exclusively for higher performance (suspend and hibernate won't work if you do this).

If A) look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee if B) look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … us#LightDM

Revert the changes you've done from the previous advice, they might lead to further trouble that would be avoidable.

Thanks for the advice! I decided to start from scratch and I want to use the intel integrated gpu most of the time.. So I choose A - Bumblebee.

So now I installed Deepin and Nvidia drivers but noticed that the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages are different versions.. Is it a problem?

Re: [SOLVED] Lightdm can't start

How different? if it's just the pkgrel after the actual version, that is normal and to be expected, because the nvidia package contains the kernel module that has to be rebuilt against newer kernels occasionally.

nvidia - 384.69-2
nvidia-utils - 384.69-1

I installed everything and now I am running the deepin DE. I followed the bumblebee instructions. Now the problem is that the external monitor doesn't work - it works only when the greeter is shown. When I login only the laptop screen is working.. Not sure how to turn it on - maybe with xorg.conf?

Re: [SOLVED] Lightdm can't start

The way how I installed everything properly was first to install nvidia, after that the xorg package and deepin.
