smplayer crashes

Hi

Starting Sunday (2017/09/10) smplayer started crashing. I removed it's configuration, restarted system. Didn't help.
I'm sure that at 2017/09/08 worked fine, because I used it those day. As far as I remember between 2017/09/08 and today I changed nothing in system configuration only made updates.
Also last update to 17.9.0-1 didn't help. Need to mention that mplayer itself works. VLC works.
Of course I have latest Qt5 library (dependency: qt5-script 5.9.1-2, qt5-tools 5.9.1-4, hicolor-icon-theme 0.15-1, kernel 4.12.12-1-ARCH). I don't have neither smplayer-themes nor smplayer-skins.

My hardware: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Drivers:
xf86-video-intel  1:2.99.917+781+gc8990575-1
mesa  17.2.0-2
intel-gpu-tools  1.19-1
libva-intel-driver  1.8.3-1

I use Plasma 5 (up-to-date).

I suppose I need to build smplayer my self to get debug package to be able check backtrace hmm. Or somewhere exists debug package to download it.

Re: smplayer crashes

Many variables here. Have you tried any of the other backends(mplayer2/mpv)?
Which output driver do you use and which hardware decoder? I assume vaapi for both?
Also, do you get any feedback when starting smplayer from the terminal?

Re: smplayer crashes

mplayer itself works fine, also mpv works. I didn't check mplayer2. As I can see (checking official repository) It is available only in AUR.
I doubt that the cause is backed, because when just simple run of smplayer, it makes crash.
$ smplayer
This is SMPlayer v. 17.9.0 (revision 8645) running on Linux
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Anyway I used mpv as backend, but it nothing changed
I updated smplayer.ini like this: mplayer_bin=/usr/bin/mpv

I didn't change output driver before and after crash. And it is: driver\vo="xv:adaptor=0"
I also removed whole configuration, so directory: ~/.config/smplayer and I run smplayer. Of course the result was crash.

Re: smplayer crashes

xv isn't really maintained in most players, any reason you are using xv output? You can use VAAPI or OpenGL. Anyway to properly check what the issue is you might want to examine that core dump

Re: smplayer crashes

@V1del thanks for helpful info.
I found out that smplayer crashes in /usr/lib/qt/plugins/platformthemes/KDEPlasmaPlatformTheme.so
Top line from "bt" command looks like this: #0  0x00007fda77ffd650 in ?? () from /usr/lib/qt/plugins/platformthemes/KDEPlasmaPlatformTheme.so
I don't have installed debug package for KDEPlasmaPlatformTheme, so I don't know where exactly it crashes hmm.

For me looks strange. I don't remember that I changed something in my Plasma settings since day when it worked till day it crashed. Only I updated operating system.

OK. I made couple tests.
First idea was build package from AUR (the same version as in official repository, so: 17.9.0). Additionally I got debug pkg for smplayer
Result: the same crash
In output (in last two lines) I got:
Debug: BaseGui::populateMainMenu
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Last debug message pointed me out what should I check as next, so... test on default settings of Plasma.
Second idea was create new user and test on it.
Result: works fine - started without problem.
Message "BaseGui::populateMainMenu" suggested me to check with normal menu set in Plasma, because my regular user uses "Menubar style: Title bar button".
And it was a bull's-eye shot. After switching this option to "In Application" smplayer started normally smile.

For me it looks like bug in smplayer, because "Menubar style: Title bar button" I have since several weeks and smplayer stopped work after some last update. So I think I need to report the bug for smplayer or maybe already did it.
