On my Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th Gen, upgrading to kernel 4.12.10-1:
- Sound card no longer detected
- Middle click button above the trackpad no longer detected
- (Edit:) Battery not detected
Downgrading to 4.12.8-2 solves the issues.

Same issue here with same laptop. Looks like others are experiencing the same issue: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55030

Same issue with the same laptop for me, too.

Me too posts will not resolve the issue. Have you checked if the issue has been reported upstream? Have you bisected between 4.12.8 and 4.12.10 to find which commits are causing the issue(s)?
Have you tried 4.13 to see if it is already resolved in that release?

Could this be the same (or related) problem as https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=228866 and https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55030 ?

It's possible that this commit in 4.12.10 is what broke the middle button:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … 1ce714e4b1
This change, present in the just-released 4.13 but missing from 4.12.10, *might* bring back the middle button, although I have not tried it:

linux-hardened is now on 4.13 so those affected could try that although if they use out of tree kernel modules they would need to use DKMS or build custom packages for those modules.

Thanks for the suggestion but, sadly, linux-hardened has its own issue with xfs on an encrypted disk due to an upstream bug!

Did anyone report https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/54700 upstream? I passed on that one as I do not use xfs apart from acting as a tester for that bug report.

The middle button/trackpoint issue is now fixed in 4.12.12.

I know we're going out of the scope of this thread, but I just made a report at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196895

Just to confirm: 4.12.12 solves all the issues listed in my original post, as does 4.12.13
