[SOLVED] tor-browser - keep profile?

Is there a way to keep your profile on upgrade? It is really annoying to re-install an adblocker every time there is an upgrade, even on minor version bumps. Bookmarks are gone as well.

Seems to happen with "tor-browser-en" as well as "tor-browser".

Make a copy of the profile and restore it after upgrading. Though, I can't say what effect, if any, will it have on the anonymity aspect of the browser.

Use the built in updater instead of rebuilding the package. I haven't tested this but i imagine that it works

Re: [SOLVED] tor-browser - keep profile?

I use torbrowser outside of pacman, just downloaded it, extracted the thing somewhere and put a script

#!/bin/sh
cd /home/$USERNAME/path/to/the/extracted/folder/tor-browser/Browser/
./start-tor-browser --detach

named e.g. tor-browser into /usr/local/bin and let tor-browser update itself.

If it works with the standard tor browser bundle you can download and run, it should be fine I guess. But I'd rather go for a less work-aroundy approach. "firefox-developer" keeps the profile when upgrading the package, so tor-browser should be able to do that as well...

I'm aware of that, but that was not my question wink
Having the AUR and pacman should be the place to manage packages and updates. I don't really want to use auto-updaters in case I miss a dependency that is injected later on.

Re: [SOLVED] tor-browser - keep profile?

The maintainer of "tor-browser", grufo, just added " ~/.tor-browser/app/Browser/TorBrowser/Data/Browser" to the list of preserved folders for the PKGBUILD. Works now, even with AUR upgrades smile
