When I launch intel_gpu_top as root under X, I get the following message:
Test requirement not met in function drm_open_driver_master, file drmtest.c:391:
Test requirement: drmSetMaster(fd) == 0
Can't become DRM master, please check if no other DRM client is running.
Last errno: 22, Invalid argument
SKIP (-1.000s)
Presumably Xorg is the drm master. I can run it under a virtual console. But when I am in the console, there is little point to use it since the gpu is of course not used (except in special case like opencl). How I am supposed to use it? I want to monitor the GPU when I use it. On another computer with a radeon graphic card, there is radeontop that works as expected.
Note: I use it a Sandy Bridge processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz

Doesn't work with my HD520 iGPU either but it used to work fine with the previous version of the package. This seems to be something you want to report upstream as I doubt this is a packaging problem.

Indeed, I installed an old version of the package (1.16-2) and this version works as expected. So that it is definitively a bug; probably upstream, as you say. Anyway thanks for pointing out that an old version works!
