Crazy amount of wakeups from touchpad causing high power consumption..

I have an asus Q304U laptop with an i5-7200U. I have an issue that's happened intermittently since i installed arch. The CPU's stay at full frequency and never idle. When i used powertop to track down the issue, an interrupt handler was showing hundreds of wakeups per second. Upon looking at /proc/interrupts, i found:

One of these things is not like the other.....

My guess is that the ELAN touchpad is my issue, but i haven't been able to rack down a worthwhile fix. I noted the wiki says to install psmouse, but I don't think that made any difference.

EDIT: THought i should mention that suspend/resume actually causes the issue to go away. weird. Hardware related perhaps?

Has anyone else run into this?

On a new ux360cak I have same issue and same behavior where suspend and resume fixes it. This is a kaby lake processor and the touchpad is elan. I had similar issue with a dell laptop and blacklisted i2c designware and it forced the touchpad to use psmouse and it solved problem. I have not done that with this because the suspend resume is easy enough. But it is the same issue and behavior probably related to the touchpad.

A fairly common issue with Asus laptops is finicky touchpads which 'jump around' (Windows users descriptions). That would cause the symptoms shown here.

Doubt there's any real solution, doesn't seem to be a software issue (if its indeed the same thing).
