Volume drops to zero and do not restores after plugging on/off

Hello,

I tried to look over the Internet and this forum, but I did not found a similar problem.

So, I have Jumper EZbook 3 Pro, almost everything is working normal, except the audio - unfortunately I have pulsaudio installed.
Th problem is (assuming the speaker channel is unmuted and has a non-zero volume level):
- when I plug on the headphones jack, speakers channel mutes AND its volume drops to zero.
- when I plug the headphones jack off,  speakers channel unmutes its volume still at zero, but the headphones channel mutes AND its volume also drops to zero.

I have checked it with ' alsamixed -c 0' command.
Disablig the Auto-Mute mode does not help.

So, mute one channel when another is connecting - it's normal and expected, but why volume levels drops to zero an do not restores?
What to do?

Replace alsa with pulseaudio.

I have pulseaudio.

Now I played with "load-module module-switch-on-port-available" option and found that everything is because of it.
When this option is enabled, I have the described behavior, on the jack plug/unplug I have the channel volumes drops to 0.
When this option is disable, channels volume is still on the same level during plug/unplug, but in this case I do not have channel switch.

So, it seems like the problem is on the pulseaudio side.

Re: Volume drops to zero and do not restores after plugging on/off

Sorry, with pulseaudio you can use pavucontrol or paprefs, I use Xfce and I've installed pavucontrol with xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin (but the version 0.2.4-5) and everything works well. Read here for a list of PulseAudio front-ends if you need another GUI: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … Front-ends

My problem is not related to gui/front-ends.
I use pavucontrol as mixer, but when my sound suddenly drops to the zero level, pavucontrol shows that everything is OK.
At the same time `alsamixer -c 0` will show that channels levels are at 0.

Re: Volume drops to zero and do not restores after plugging on/off

I think, you've already tried to empty the folder ".pulse/" and then reboot.

But it could be an incompatibility between alsamixer / pavucontrol, If you use pavucontrol, you don't need alsamixer. Maybe you already know, but here you can read the differences between ALSA and Pulseaudio :

https://superuser.com/questions/144648/ … dio-relate

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Puls … iagram.svg

ALSA is at kernel level and alsamixer is his semi-graphical mixer, Pulseaudio is only a software and pavucontrol is his graphical mixer when you can control the channels of ALSA, now alsamixer can control some channels, pavucontrol, some other channels (as far as I understand).

Re: Volume drops to zero and do not restores after plugging on/off

alsamixer is a part of the alsa-utils distribution. I tried to remove it, but in that case I just lost the only one possibility to turn my volume levels up again.

pavucontrol and other pulse front-ends can not even show that levels are at 0 level.
