Android-Tools 8.0_r4-2 Breaks ADB & MTP Access

Running Arch XFCE LTS kernel, also tested on Arch Cinnamon LTS, and Manjaro Cinnamon LTS (same results).

Just updated android-tools from the 7.1.2_r27-1 to 8.0_r4-2.  Phone connects to pc as usual, but as soon as you try to enable MTP, the phone disconnects immediately and continues to bounce between being connected/unconnected until you reboot the pc (nothing wrong phone side other than the usb connection status/usb debugging going on and off in the status bar).  Result differs device to device.  On my Moto X Pure I could not connect to ADB at all.  Even in charge only mode, as soon as an ADB command is given the device disconnects, along with no MTP access at all.  On my LG-G3, ADB works while the phone's USB setting is in charge only mode, but not in MTP mode - device disconnects.  The LG can maintain an MTP connection, but no storage locations are shown (blank in the file manager).

Downgrading back to 7.1.2_r27-1 fixes the issue - ADB/MTP work as they should.  Android-udev is unaffected, the latest update works on both versions of android-tools. So for now I'm operational, just wanted the issue noted here.

Re: Android-Tools 8.0_r4-2 Breaks ADB & MTP Access

@ewaller Results seem to vary depending on phone/android version. Moto X Pure Stock Android 6.0 - no adb/mtp access at all.  Same Moto X Pure w/Lineage14.1 Android 7.1.2 - Adb via charge works, mtp mounts/then kicks off.  Downgrading to 7.1.2 fixes issue for me on devices I have tested with.  Good to know that it is working for your phone.

I can confirm that.. Xiaomi Mi 4c phone is connected without any problem, Xiaomi Huami Amazfit watches are bouncing connected/disconnected and also not visible with

adb devices

I tried it right now on another arch machine with freshly installed system and android-tools with the same results.

Following recommendations in the bug report,  I just tested the AUR package android-tools-git r34543.424ed42fb-1 and it is working perfectly.  No issues.  I think it would be wise for others to test too and post their results there in order to help get a new release pushed to the community repo.

Same problem with a moto e4 device using android-tools 8.0, but LG Tribute 5 works fine. Both devices are working well using the android-tools-git package from the AUR.

Re: Android-Tools 8.0_r4-2 Breaks ADB & MTP Access

FYI, the recent update android-tools 8.0.0_r11-1 still has the same issue - My Moto's do not like the 8x series.  I'm sticking with the 7x series, as I don't have any devices with Android 8.0 Oreo on them.  For users that have Oreo, I'd recommend using the AUR git package for proper driver support/ADB access.
