Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Screen doesn't wake up after long idle

If I leave my laptop alone for some time, about 30 minutes or so, the screen does not power on and a hard reset is required. Sometimes the screen will come on, only to display a block of garbage in the upper left.

xorg-server 1.19.3-3
mesa 17.2.1-3
libva-intel-driver 1.8.3-1

Journalctl shows several entries of:

chromium.desktop[2939]: [2939:2939:0923/182341.382297:ERROR:media_internals.cc(107)] Cannot get RenderProcessHost

This is from stock Chromium. I'm not sure if this is related or is indicative of another problem.

Dmesg doesn't provide anything useful as it's cleared out with the hard reset.

I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot further!
