Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Hi all,
after having upgraded to linux 4.13.3 on my Dell XPS 13 (9360) laptop, I'm experiencing randon screen flickering (flashes to black or to multiple random colors).
This happens on a GNOME on Wayland session (not tested anywere else).
As recommended by the arch wiki, I did not install the xf86-video-intel dirver and I'm using kms.
Anyone else is experiencing the same?
Thanks!

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Post a dmesg or anything that would be remotely helpful to help you.

However with the prevalence of iommu issues currently, you might want to try and disable it, since it might well be the cause. See: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=230362 We would know for sure if we had any log output

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Happening here on my Gen5 X1 carbon as well. Downgrading the kernel has seemingly resolved the issue. Interestingly enough the issue seems to stop when I connect my hdmi monitors to my laptop. If/when I get more time I will attempt another upgrade and gather some logs for you guys.

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

I've tried adding intel_iommu=off kernel parameter and I'll check if it will happen again (so far, so good).

I've also read here https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentatio … -IOMMU.txt this suggestion:

Graphics Problems?
------------------
If you encounter issues with graphics devices, you can try adding
option intel_iommu=igfx_off to turn off the integrated graphics engine.
If this fixes anything, please ensure you file a bug reporting the problem.

If intel_iommu=off  works, I'll then also try intel_iommu=igfx_off and I'll post my experience here.

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Hi,

I also experienced screen flickering on a Razer Blade Stealth. The solution that solved the issue was to disable the RC6 sleep mode by adding i915.enable_rc6=0 to the kernel boot parameters.

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Hi,

I think I have the same problem (Razer Blade Stealth i7-8550u). I tried different drivers and kernel parameters but nothing seems to fix it.

Did you find any solution ?

Re: Screen flickering on Intel HD 620 after upgrade to kernel 4.13.3

Please don't hijack the thread, the OP doesn't have the same hardware as you and has presumably fixed the issue with a workaround that was necessary at the time the post was made but isn't required anymore.

Make your own threads and include at least the output of the command requested here in the first post.

Closing. -- @Iviggiani should the issue still be relevant, request a reopening of the thread.
