Problems with Realtek Semiconductor RTL8101/2/6E

Hi all.

I have been having various problems with the ethernet controller on my laptop. Every other time I power on my machine, the ethernet device does not show up in dmesg, lspci, or ip link. The first thing I wanted to try was replacing the r8169 driver with r8101. I blacklisted the module and rebuilt the initramfs image, but when the machine powers up and I load the r8101 module, the ethernet device does not show up. If I reboot, the controller shows up in lspci again and everything works fine. What steps can I take to figure out what is going on with my laptop?

Thanks.

Re: Problems with Realtek Semiconductor RTL8101/2/6E

compare journal/dmesg between a working and non working boot.
