Newly burnt CD refuses to boot

I'm trying to install Arch on a Pentium D processor based computer

I've downloaded the archlinux 2017.04.01 -x86_64.iso file, and burnt it to CD using the Burn Image option of Brasero.  This seems to successfully create a disc containing  several files and folders.

However, when I try to boot from the disc, my system does nothing, until it eventually boots from the Linux currently installed on hard disc.

Any ideas where I may be going wrong?

TIA

Re: Newly burnt CD refuses to boot

Does the current image (2017.10.01) work?

It's probably best to troubleshoot with a USB drive instead of a CD as you won't be wasting media trying different images.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: Newly burnt CD refuses to boot

Update...

Actually, I've now found that the CD will boot - sporadically, when 'it feels like it'!

This seems to suggest a hardware problem.  Any suggestions on how to pinpoint and rectify the fault?

Re: Newly burnt CD refuses to boot

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=230338 this guy had problem mounting his live USB, eventually the 2017.10.01 iso worked out of the box like nothing ever happened. Better try that one (after you've checked if other boot CDs or even any CD work as normal)
