Hey, just the last few days (I do updates nearly daily) Kodi stopped playing videos. It just showed "100" as if it would have buffered 100% to start the video, the progressbar advanced but I don’t got any video nor audio, the first frame was frozen. This behavior was observed by a forum member in the official Kodi forum in August too – but on Windows. Strange.
So, this happened with kodi-17.5-1. Then i used "downgrade" to downgrade to older versions, with the same problem. I downgraded further and with kodi-17.4-1 it worked again. This package is from 08-24! How can this be? I did all recent Kodi updates in the last months – often even checked if VDPAU was working (it was) – but now only this old package from August still works?
To verify my results I upgraded again to the now new 17.5-2. This time the video played but it used ffmpeg instead of VDPAU. I dig around in the setting and noticed that my hardware acceleration options were gone. And then I downgraded again a few versions, in each my HW acc settings were gone + the frozen frame with "100" message. 17.4-1 works with VDPAU.
My pacman log tells me, on 10-05 I did an upgrade from 17.4-1 → 17.4-6. But I still had hardware acceleration back then. There must be something different going on.
I’m using a Radeon RX 580 with AMDGPU and my Arch packages are up to date.

I ran into both of these problems also. The problem with videos freezing/not playing was caused by the latest ffmpeg upgrade. Rolling back to ffmpeg 1:3.3.4-1 fixed it for me. The problem with no hw acceleration and no hw accel options in settings showing up seems to have been introduced with the latest kodi update (17.5-2). Rolling back kodi to 17.4-6 gave me hw acceleration back.

this problem creeps up every now and then with new Kodi builds. just file a bug upstream and roll back until the next version, which will likely include a fix.

Thanks guys, Kodi 17.5-4 works again with VDPAU. Just an observation: The overlay info [O] shows "vdpau-temp", before, it was just "vdpau" if I’m remembering correctly.
