All connection stopped working and cannot run certain commands anymore

Ok so this is the strangest thing that happened to me ever with Arch.
I was using my laptop normally and suddenly NetworkManager crashed. I tried to relaunch it but everytime I run a command with sudo it hangs...
So for example I can run 'ls' but not 'sudo ls'. 'ifconfig' hangs also even without sudo, systemctl also....

After a reboot it's the same, I plugged an ethernet cable and still don't have any connection.
Btw I didn't update this system since few weeks/months. It's on kernel 4.11.9-1
This is the only relevant log I find, seems to be related to iwlwifi. But even if let's say my wifi card burned or something like that (since I didn't update or anything this kinda makes sense to me) it doesn't explain why I cannot run certain commands anymore...

Re: All connection stopped working and cannot run certain commands anymore

What is the specific output when you run sudo ls   ?   How about sudo su    ?
Can you log in as root?

Re: All connection stopped working and cannot run certain commands anymore

sudo su
no output, hanging
sudo ls
no output, hanging
su
ask for password and I can login but if I run ifconfig after it hangs, ls works there
very strange...

I've tried using different terminals also

[ 17.629477] CPU: 1 PID: 538 Comm: wpa_supplicant Tainted: G O 4.11.9-1-ARCH #1

Why are you running a rotten kernel?

Try to blacklist iwlwifi (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_modules#Blacklisting - use the "install ... /bin/false" method)
You probably run into PAM issues because of failing host resolution or so. Paste a complete journal for better insight.

Doesn't that dmsg just mean that the driver isn't signed/ hasn't been integrated into the kernel? Or uses a different license than the kernel (proprietary modules)?

Re: All connection stopped working and cannot run certain commands anymore

It does especially say "4.11.9-1-ARCH", there's at least an out of tree module being loaded (could be iwlwifi or something different)
"G" indicates all modules should have a GPL license (or lie ;-)

Ah! I see what you're saying now. I misunderstood what you meant by "Why are you running a rotten kernel?". I thought you were asking why he was running a tainted kernel.
