Hey friends,
I'm having a bit of an issue that I encountered before but never had the chance to resolve.
I use pavucontrol to set specific output and input devices for applications. I recently installed an application, and in the Playback tab, tried to change the application to the proper Output Device (like I do with any new application), but no change would occur. So beside the app, it would be set to "Headphones 1" (as an example), and I'd click the dropdown and attempt to set it to "Headphones 2," but it would stay on "Headphones 1". Not 100% sure where to go with it at this point, I've tried unplugging/replugging the sound card I use for the headphones (just a basic stereo out/mono in USB card), rebooting, etc., to no avail. I can supply any info needed.
Cheers.
SOLUTION: Application uses OpenAL, created ~/.alsoftrc:

Which application? Some applications can set a hint to their pulse stream that it should remain on one device and be disallowed from being moved around. Reprodruce that scenario, then post

Thanks for your response. In this case, the application is the Open Morrowind launcher - if you're unfamiliar, it's an open source version of the Elder Scrolls 3. I had this happen before about a year ago with Counter Strike: Global Offensive as well.
Normally I'd use a pastebin but if you want it in code tags, here you go:

Both of these have one common denominator, they use OpenAL which defaults to the behaviour I just described and this can be reconfigured as detailed in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … en_devices
wrt pastebin/code tags, pastebin would be fine as well, I just wanted to ensure you aren't going to dump that output plainly into your post
However having it on the boards has the added benefit of preserving the context, since pastebins might not keep the paste all the time.
