Hi, I run into trouble with a creative webcam that use to work.
It uses ov511 module which isn't loaded automatically
I have added this module in rc.conf but the webcam still doesn't work.
I also have xf86-video-v4l and " Load "v4l" " in my xorg.conf
The log for X :
(II) LoadModule: "v4l"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/v4l_drv.so
(II) Module v4l: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 0.0.1
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
When pluging / unpluging the webcam here's dmesg output :
usb 1-1.1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 1-1.2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-1.2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 1-1.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
usb 1-1.3: no configuration chosen from 1 choice
And in /dev I don't have any /dev/videoX device nor /dev/v4l directory :

Same problem with kernel26beyond and kernel26-2.6.17.
The computer is uptodate on current branch.
I've also tryed and install ekiga / xawtv but all block on the missing /dev/video
What pkg I forgot to install ?
Thx for reply

Hi Warnaud!
I had the same problem yesterday and also got frustrated that somehow nothing would help.... (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=22832)
Maybe this might also help in your case...
run abs as root,
then makepgk in /var/abs/kernels/kernel26
and finally pacman -U with the new created kernel package
if you use nvidia you have to run an additional pacman -S nvidia after that
(or after reboot into shell)
I dont think that you really have to load v4l in xorg.... (however this was also one of the things I tried...).
Do you have hotplug loaded? Cause my pwc module was loaded automatically but the /dev/video was missing...
I hope this could help!
Best regards

I solved this in another way, I bought a powered USB hub and everything's working now  Really weird issue ... and I don't see how the kernel or another pkg can influence the power in the USB chain ...
