Error message: "dev/sda1 is apparently in use by the system..."

Hi all,

in the very first steps of the instal process, I've just partitioned my disks 1 root 1 swap, and when I type the command "mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1" to format it, it says the message "dev/sda1 is apparently in use by the system: will not make a filesystem here!"

Can someone tell me the reason behind this ?

I'm booting on a 32gb USB on a Asus ux301-la.

Thanks to all

Are you sure /dev/sda1 is the correct partition? The live media also has partitions which appear under /dev/.

sda and sdb are part of a raid array. Are you intending to use raid?

Also please use code tags for terminal output. The link "BBCode" below the text area explains what they are.
