Plex destroying storage disk

Has anyone had plex destroy their external drive when not stopping plexmediaserver.service prior to reboot? When i say destroy i mean i can't access the disk (my media). The partition table is gone and im unable to access any media on it. If i reformat all is well. I accidentally rebooted my plex server (intel nuc) without stopping plexmediaserver.service twice and both times my disk as inaccessible after. If i stop plexmediaserver.service and unmount my storage drive all is well.
