[Solved] Trojita keeps crashing with plain text

Running Trojita since late 2015. (LXQt DE)
First issues started to appear with known plain text bug https://github.com/annulen/webkit/issues/511 and qt-webkit 5.212. But I just downgraded to qt 5.8.0 as a workaround. And after ICU update to version 60 it works no more. 

So now I have to stick with current qt-webkit 5.212 alpha. Which has above mentioned layout fix since qt5-webkit-5.212.0alpha2-6. https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/pack … 837d07bd56
Nevertheless in my case trojita keeps crashing on any plain text messages.

Aborted (core dumped)

And I have no idea what kind of "garbage" left in my system to keep trojita from normal functioning. Since it is not the case with fresh install. But full system reinstall isn't an option for me

As a real archer you should know that reinstalling the whole system is never an option because it does not fix the underlying isssue but bypasses it.

I use trojita too sometimes and as you have described, the qt-webkit issue is fixed now. So rolling back to the current version should fix your issue indeed. Have you rebuild trojita with current qt-webkit 5.212.0alpha2-10? Also are you now back on qt 5.9.3-1? Please test with makepkg and no automation tool (yaourt/pacaur). Also have you tried to get rid of any trojita traces in your system and then rebuild?

If it really does not work for you, the underlying problem may be a different one and not related to qt-webkit at all.

Finally I solved that riddle. Oracle java 9 was to blame.

Since Oracle Java 9, some Qt 5 applications (such as the reader apps Zeal and
GoldenDict) will crash due to the existance of the Java NPAPI plugin symlink
(/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libnpjp2-jre9.so).

Transition to jre8 (AUR) is my workaround.
