Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

Truecrypt is absolutely awesome!  I use it all the time for my USB flash drive ever since I lost one with personal info on it.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to sit down and get the Linux version running on my Arch machine yet.  I can highly recommend it though...

Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

It's in the AUR, cactus - I just uploaded a new package yesterday to fix a problem with kernel 2.6.17 (thanks to shabang for the fix). I don't use it myself, but from the comments and votes it appears other do.

Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

I've tried the Windows version before there was a Linux version available and it was pretty good. The fact that the encrypted volumes can be mounted on both Linux and Windows is a big plus for those who have to deal with Windows. That doesn't bother me so much, I haven't really touched my Windows installations in about 15 months. Nowadays I only use it to play the odd game of Baldur's Gate with friends. Now that I look back, it's been two and a half years since I first installed Linux, those were exciting times.

Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

I agree it's awsome. I've used it in Windows but not in Linux yet. Will do soon though. Here is an interesting intro for Truecrypt by Iron Geek for anyone thats interested. It's based on the windows version but will give an idea on what it does and how it can be implemented.

Also the plausable deniable encrypted file/filesystem is a cool feature.

Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

I've just started using it (on a file rather than a partition) and it seems great. I'll have to start using it on a partition once I feel comfortable usnig it.

Re: Anyone used Truecrypt?

I like using them on files since I think it's a bit more flexible if you're not wanting to encrypt everything.  Iuse it to create (among other uses) a encrypted file of around 680MB, then filling it up and burning the file for a secure way to keep backups.

As if there isn't enough response already, I add that TrueCrypt is pretty amazing software.
