[SOLVED] Nemo not responding

Today my Nemo file manager has stopped working properly. I can launch it, and it has the little "working" spinner show for a while, but when it stops Nemo seems very unresponsive - if I click on a folder in my quick access list pane it takes around a full minute for the click to register and the folder being opened.
Yesterday this was working just fine. If I launch nemo from terminal I get these messages:

I have also tried opening Thunar, it freezes completely on start and only shows a blank window with the title bar on the top. PCManFM and Deepin File Manger seem to work normally after installing and trying them too.
Has there been some broken updates that affect Nemo and Thunar this way? Any help to figure this out much appreciated!

Did you ask your pacman log?

Also, do you use some remote filesystem? (smb, nfs, dropbox, ...)?

No.. I always forget which log I should check, since I'm not used to troubleshooting this kind of thing that often.
Below are my pacman log contents from the past days.

And I do have NFS shares set up, is that what might be causing this? Because I had a hard drive failure on my NAS sometime in the night before saturday, leading me to shut it down until I can get a replacement disk since I can't risk more failures with my 1-disk redundancy.
But how is it that the file manager more or less completely locks up if the remote filesystems are inaccessible, if that's what you mean is happening?

That is what I mean. If the NFS drive is mounted into the root filesystem and the FM believes that disc IO is fast and can thus be done synchronous, it'll lock.

Okay great, I changed all my NFS mounts to be in this format (added the retrans, retry, actimeo, bg and soft options):

192.168.1.100:/volume1/Backups 					          /mnt/DiskStation/Backups						      nfs		rsize=8192,wsize=8192,noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=10,timeo=5,retrans=5,actimeo=10,retry=5,x-systemd.idle-timeout=1min,bg,soft	0	2

And now Nemo works fine again without locking up. Perfect.
However I'm having another issue that is really closely related to this, I have a windows 10 installation on a separate disk, which is also mounted to /mnt, with the line below:

/dev/sde2										/mnt/win10 									ntfs	defaults									0	2

I noticed a problem now because I have Pale Moon, Opera and Thunderbird on arch symlinking the profile folder from the windows 10 installation's folder. I.e. those programs get their profile data from the windows 10 disk.
But now it doesn't work because the Windows 10 disk seems to be mounted as read only or something like that - I can't delete or move files on the disk from arch, which means that Opera and the other programs lock up because they can't edit the files they use.
I've experienced this sometime before, but a reboot has sorted it out, however since we're talking about these things anyway, and I just edited my NFS shares - what could be causing the Windows 10 disk to be mounted as "read only" now?

You should really start a new topic as it's a different issue.
However, I can't see how you ever had write access to that drive, as the ntfs driver is read-only. You should be using ntfs-3g.

I've got a follow-up to the question in this topic. Nemo works fine for my normal user when the NFS shares are down after the changes proposed by seth, but when I use the command "Open as root" in nemo, triggering the root user to open a nemo window, I experience the same delays as before with the normal user.
Why is this? Doesn't the root user use the same fstab file and settings as my normal user?

No. it's probably a different issue (lacking access to the session dbus or whatever) - watch the process output.

However, as a rule of thumb, do not run gui processes as root at all.
