Hi all,
I have an existing Arch install for about four years now. I am not sure if this is technically possible, but I would like to set up encrypted LVM's and transfer the root partition in particular into one of those LVM's. The /home directory is not as important. Would it be possible to ghost root back in if I have a partition the same size?

Welcome to the forums MichaelJ. Please provide more information. You are going to backup your existing installation which is unencrypted
using some unspecified means to something? You will then created luks on lvm or lvm on luks it does not really matter for this overview
then create new filesystems and then copy the unencrypted contents back on to the now encrypted devices?

Hi!
I would set up the encrypted arch and then just copy the things you need from your old installation. The encryption itself does only need other hooks in mkinitcpio and a customized bootloader.

Hi loqs. Yes, I have the home directory backed up to an external harddrive. I was hoping to keep the programs and settings as they are on a new installation. Yes, I want to remove, zero out the drive, set up new encrypted partitions and then transfer the root partition on my current install back as is.
