[solved] GPU hang with intel, awesome, xterm, tmux, rangerfm

I just started (today) getting a GPU hang.

dmesg shows:-

[ 2246.457988] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x85dffffb, in Xorg [628], reason: Hang on rcs0, action: reset
[ 2246.457992] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[ 2246.457994] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[ 2246.457995] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 2246.457997] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.
[ 2246.457999] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[ 2246.458011] i915 0000:00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 after gpu hang

/sys/class/drm/card0/error is long, here's the pastebin:- https://pastebin.com/wwj0wF6V

This only happens (as far as I can tell) when I open rangerfm in my terminal (in X, doesn't happen in VT). The odd combination is what leads me to ask here first. Also only happens when I'm in tmux (which I'm almost always in), if I'm in X and terminal (xterm) opening rangerfm works fine. Similarly if I'm using st-git, tmux and rangerfm work fine....

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=232454 is the most recent thread which seems related, but it's not the same trigger point.

Other details on my system, it's running [testing], latest updates, running on intel (optimus, but it isn't engaged when this happens). I'm running awesomewm (and have been for ages).

Do I just go direct to the i915 bug area or is there any other debugging I need to do first?

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ - i915 component.

Did you try i915.enable_rc6=0 i915.semaphores=1 ?

Haven't tried that, didn't even think to check powersaving options... the wiki also suggests disabling DRI, will test both and revert.

Also editing my initial post with some more information on triggering conditions.

EDIT: Disabling DRI fixed it. Oh well.
