For some weeks now I've lost the keyboard backlight on my Dell Latitude e4300. Something has changed in the last 2 months to make it stop working. Miss this a lot.
I'm lead to believe that Fn + F6 should be the hardware switch, but it does nothing. If I hit Fn + right arrow a Gnome prompt shows a glowing button, but this does nothing to the keyboard.
I've tried the following resources:
1. the Arch Wiki on `Keyboard backlight` << adding the Python3 file seemed to do nothing
2. /usr/share/lightdm << does not exist (via various Linux forums)
3. xset led on OR xset led 3 << does nothing
4. /var/lib/xkb << has just a README.compiled file (no cache)
Would really appreciate a little assistance in problem solving in anyone reading might have a few clues how to solve.

Oh, I've fixed it. Seems like it needed turning up to see it! One of those I feel dense moments. The above test 1. is what worked.
Mapped the keys in Gnome Settings >> Devices >> Keyboard. The Gnome default of Fn + right arrow could not be overridden, so I switched it to Alt + Shift + right arrow and it came back to life. Hitting Alt + right arrow now shows the Gnome prompt with a level indicator.
I'm excited! Dark winter days having this back it's magic.
