Hello,
would it be possible to cross-compile all packages (base, base-devel) to powerpc architecture so i could install archlinux on iMac?
From there on i could compile other programs on the actual hardware?
Has anyone had any experiences with this kind of idea?
Powerpc as a arhitecture in general in the end of 2017 is rare. Some alternative would be gentoo or old debian releases.
Thanks.

I'd go with gentoo, recompiling arch for power pc would almost like creating a new arch distro

pacman -S spotify-launcher
mount /dev/disk/by-...

I thought that maybe it would be using some kind of scripts that would edit and use PKGBUILDs to create packages.

You could look what archlinux32 does. That said, the main challenge will be dealing with architecture-specific quirks/bugs, so you might as well use a distribution where the way is paved for you. (debian, gentoo, ...)

Hi dudes, i'm also interested in compiling base and base-devel for ppc. Can anyone please share the last arch ppc iso distribution (if you have one in backup?) - 2012.05.29.iso My machine is Powerbook G4 and i would like to use arch on it. At least will think how to build it.

Just googled 2 news. First is good - one linux geek from Germany have done a hard work and compiled arch pcc with debian:

The bad news - He did not uploaded the result of his work.

Welp, if anyone would be interested, I could try messing with it.

Thanks for the contribution. This thread is three years old, and the OP has not been back since 2018. I am going to close this thread now.
