Hello all,
Setting up an old computer for my father, I am having difficulties passing the graphic card drivers.
Nouveau is very slow and crash once on the desktop (gnome shell) the nvidia drivers ( Nvidia-304xx for GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (rev a2)) doesn't support KMS so Xorg doesn't work.
Searching the forum or the wiki doesn't seem to point toward a good, clean and long-term solution.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks,

This is unlikely an installation issue, anyway: I doubt anything else than nouveau will work well (you could try to search old nvidia drivers from https://archive.archlinux.org).
Anyway, using nouveau, make sure you add the nouveau module in mkinitcpio, rebuild the initramfs and if it doesn't help try another DE. I see the point of choosing gnome but you may want to go more lightweight if the PC is old.

Logs?

First, Xorg doesn't need KMS. Second, logs?
What is the output of:
glxinfo
printenv XDG_SESSION_TYPE
(At least for nVidia, but preferably both)
Also, keep the following in mind:
- https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ow_to_post
- Gnome defaults to Wayland
