Does anyone know if I should be concerned? I have downgraded to the previous kernel version as a precaution.

Re: Kernel 4.14.8-1 bug

Welcome to the arch linux forums vario.  Looks to be connected to
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … 3658388eed
Please report this upstream it seems on your system the previous fix has exposed another issue.  Please also cc the linux-stable mailing list.  Please do not report it on the arch linux bug tracker upstream issues can not be fixed there.
Edit:
Personally I would keep using 4.14.8 or revert that one commit and see if that fixes the issue or switch to linux-lts using older kernels leaves the system vulnerable to other issues.
In this case the issue to me appears to be caused on the error path of the impi_si so even though  that module is now causing a bug it was on the error path anyway so even if it cleans up properly I would not expect it to offer functionality.
Also please use code tags for commands and their outputs.

Re: Kernel 4.14.8-1 bug

OK thanks, I don't fully understand your reply (the hardware issues are beyond me) - and where exactly is "upstream"?!
P.S code tags inserted

Re: Kernel 4.14.8-1 bug

Upstream for the linux kernel would be kernel.org https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … -bugs.html

$ perl scripts/get_maintainer.pl -f drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_intf.c
Corey Minyard <minyard@acm.org> (supporter:IPMI SUBSYSTEM)
openipmi-developer@lists.sourceforge.net (moderated list:IPMI SUBSYSTEM)
linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org (open list)

Re: Kernel 4.14.8-1 bug

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … 979385d9f6
reverts the commit that caused the issue so should be fixed in 4.14.10
