[SOLVED] Macbook pro keyboard unavailable during boot

I've installed Arch on a macbook pro 13,2 using systemd-boot installed into the apple EFI partition. I have a single LUKS-encrypted root partition.

The macbook pro keyboard does not work out-of-box, I had to install the applespi driver using dkms. The keyboard works in the boot menu but not when I need to input a password to decrypt my root partition. It won't even prompt for a password unless I connect an external keyboard and use that to select the boot entry. Once the system is booted the keyboard works.

I've rebuilt my kernel with

MODULES=(applespi spi_pxa2xx_platform intel_lpss_pci)

based on these instructions. I've also tried adding spi_pxa2xx_pci (even though I have a 2016 model) and that didn't help.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Well now it just seems to be working, after changing nothing but rebooting several times. Maybe I'm just crazy. I'll mark this as solved I guess, unless there is a way to delete posts.
