Reboot on Suspend after Certain Updates

I have a Dell XPS 13 9350. I use Gnome as my DM.

I've occasionally had issues with reboots after a suspend following some updates. It happened again today, when I updated to the latest builds of linux and gnome.

To be clear, to reproduce this I suspend the machine. On wake it boots up as if it were switched off. This currently happens all the time.

To try and troubleshoot, I enabled systemd persistent journaling and it showed no error messages, I've attached it below. Has anyone had any similar issues or can suggest some more troubleshooting steps to take?

Edit: A BIOS update released 3 days ago fixed it

Re: Reboot on Suspend after Certain Updates

Recently, my laptop has problem of resuming from suspending: sometimes, I open the lid only to find that is has switched off, i.e. it is fully turned off.
According to the breat light on the lid, I find all suspending attempt was success, and journalctl log confirms this.

Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd-logind[729]: Delay lock is active (UID 120/gdm, PID 1060/gsd-power) but inhibitor timeout is reached.
Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd[1]: Starting TLP suspend/resume...
Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd[1]: Started TLP suspend/resume.
Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep.
Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd[1]: Starting Suspend...
Jan 10 18:28:38 carbon systemd-sleep[2729]: Suspending system...

Actually these are the last few lines. The next thing gonna happen is that I open the lid later, and the computer is already switched off.

I started looking at the problem, and noticed that it was actually turned off when I open the lid: the breath light on the power button was breathing correctly the moment I open the lid, and went off right away. I am not a new Arch user, and am used to reading logs, but have absolute no idea where to start looking: there is NO log after "suspending system"!! How can I get some idea what happened?

Here are few failed attempts:
1. Add

shutdown

to mkinitcpio.conf hooks and run

mkinitcpio -p linux

2. Using

systemctl suspend

instead of closing lid
3. Uninstalling/Reinstalling

acpid

in case there is conflict.

Any idea how to fix it, or how to get log on what happened?

Re: Reboot on Suspend after Certain Updates

Thank you @edrose, it seems I have got a similar problem. I followed your steps and updated my BIOS. It is working now!
I will come back in a few days to report whether the problem truely disappeared or not.

Re: Reboot on Suspend after Certain Updates

It looks like the problem is still there. Possibly because the BIOS update I got was out 2017-12-19.

Is that BIOS version 1.6.1?

Is that BIOS version 1.6.1?

It says Version: N1FET59W (1.33 ). I guess the version numbers from different vendors may not be comparable?

Re: Reboot on Suspend after Certain Updates

I updated to the new BIOS 1.35, and its release note contains some ACPI fixes. I assume that is the one. Anyway, I only experienced 2 reboot before this BIOS update. I assume the problem has been "solved".
