This is the laptop with intel graphics + nvidia 940mx gpu
when i do
lspci | grep -i vga i see
>> VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 620 (rev 02)
lspci | grep -i 3d i see my nvidia card
>> 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM108M [Geforce 940MX] (rev a2)
I've installed nvidia package and xfce4, xterm, xorg, etc.
I've got everything working just fine on an older laptop with an older nvidia graphics card -- i know what's involved in setting it up (or so i thought)
When i `startx` laptop screen goes blank until i hit Ctrl + D at which point it just says:
waiting for X server to shutdown XIO: fatal IO error 4 (Interrupted system call) on X server ":0"
after 1141 requests (1141 known processed) with 1 events remaining
xterm: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) or KillClient on X server ":0"
xterm: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) or KillClient on X server ":0"
(II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log shows some errors and a few warnings:
The directory "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/" does not exist
Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
Warning could not open module "nouveau"
error: Failed to load module nv does not exist
error: Failed to load module "intel" does not exist
error: Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist)
(Do i need those ^ i thought i could get away with just nvidia drivers???)
some nvidia warnings:
Nvidia: unable to get display device for DPI computation
Nvidia: option primary gpu is not used
When i `startxfce4` laptop screen goes blank and i cannot come back with Ctrl + D -- have to hard reboot
I need some help trouble shooting this. It's a brand new laptop with an i7 intel chip, i did not have any issues with older lap top, which has way older hw so this was a surprise!
Do i need to do somehting in my bios? set nvidia as primary gpu? i plan on using a dual monitor setup sometimes with this laptop, i dunno if hdmi port is on nvidia card (i guess so because i think it runs off nvidia driver on windows)
Anyway, kind of stumped, i guess will try to install intel driver package? Please help

Installed bumblebee as directed in the article and everything worked.
Didn't know about optimus, didn't know there was a whole other thing to it.
Thanks.
