[SOLVED] hplip without hpijs

I've noticed that hplip package no longer include hpijs ("--enable-hpijs-install" removed). Anyone know why it is removed? It was only driver that work well with my old HP Laserjet 1200, postscript driver also working but printing of the single page from pdf takes 2 minutes, against 5 seconds with hpijs.

Re: [SOLVED] hplip without hpijs

I don't know why it was removed, but you have a couple options.  One is to build it yourself and modify the pkgbuild to enable it.  Or, use the foomatic drivers; that is what I use to talk to the HP LJ 1200 on my wife's Windows box (I print to that device via Samba).  The only issue is that, I believe, that firmware are uploaded to the printer from the driver when the driver starts.  In my case, those firmware are uploaded by the Windows machine.  Never-the-less, you might look into the foomatic drivers.

I think gutenprint has also drivers for your laserjet which you could try.

The same problem here. Changing the driver to "HP LaserJet 1200 pcl3, hpcups 3.17.11" makes it work again, printing fast, at least for one test page so far. Now I'm studying what's the hpijs/hpcups difference...

Re: [SOLVED] hplip without hpijs

hpijs is a subset of hpcups - see also the HPLIP FAQ page. hpijs just contains the basic programs needed to get printers working, and does not include the cups-specific glue; most printers will work with either, however some will only work if you pick the hpcups driver.
