Problems with dropbox. No daemon after AUR install.

Hi all. Brand-new to Arch. I installed dropbox with

$ packer -S nautilus-dropbox

Which installs dropbox and nautilus-dropbox. After install if I search and open dropbox via the activities launcher I can link my account and files start to sync.  However there is no system tray icon - so basically no ui. Additionally, it looks like there should be a file ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd but that directory doesn't even exist. If I try to start/ stop from the command line e.g.,

$ dropbox stop

I get this mess of an output, as if the (python?) script is just throwing everything into the terminal.

 $ dropbox stop
dropbox: locating interpreter
dropbox: logging to /tmp/dropbox-antifreeze-YrSulc

dropbox: running python 2.7.11

dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/librsyncffi.compiled._librsyncffi.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/linuxffi.sys.compiled._linuxffi_sys.so'
Another instance of Dropbox (14724) is running!

This is a pretty fresh install of Arch. Anyone have these issues?

Do you have a system tray? You haven't said what WM/DE you are using...

edit: No, it is not obvious...

Re: Problems with dropbox. No daemon after AUR install.

The Arch wiki page for dropbox has a lot of info. If you're trying to stop it with "dropbox stop", I'm guessing you haven't read it.

Also, I'm not sure where you're expecting the dropbox icon. From what I've been told, there is no system tray in GNOME anymore.

Re: Problems with dropbox. No daemon after AUR install.

Gnome no longer has a native system tray. I believe there are extensions though.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

I did look at the wiki a bit, and it did reference that the icon should be in the system tray after installation, but I didn't know that GNOME removed that. The commands I was using  (dropbox stop) was based on info at https://www.dropbox.com/help/desktop-web/linux-commands which I thought would be relevant. But now I think that the AUR package is not the same as what gets built if you use the installer from the dropbox website? Sorry I'm new to Linux and still trying to get a grip on package management in general. I tried to build the package myself from dropbox.com, but it fails because Arch symlinks "$ python" to python3 instead of python2.

Re: Problems with dropbox. No daemon after AUR install.

You have to install an extension to get a system tray or appindicator support:

https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1031/topicons/

https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ … r-support/
