I have setup my joystick under other distros, but unsure where to start on arch
card: sb live 5.1
joystick: grip
normally I do this:
as root edit
/etc/rc.d/rc.modules
and place this below section header
### Joystick support ###
/sbin/modprobe joydev
/sbin/modprobe emu10k1
/sbin/modprobe emu10k1-gp
# next line is your joystick make, grip is for gravis ...
/sbin/modprobe grip
then
Chmod 666 /dev/input/js0
chown root /dev/input/js0
Off to using Peanut and Slackware, no hard feelings but I need my CD to burn, PDA and scanner to connect and arch won't do it.

under 0.6 I have had success getting my stick to flick
added below to above modprobe list
modprobe interact
slap to my head for I knew that.. gees
