[SOLVED] Nvidia GPU not detected after mishap

I acidentally dislodged the power to my GTX 970 while working in my case. I ran the PC and powered it on a few times before I recognized the problem. The LED on the GPU was red instead of the normal white.

After re-seating and securing the cable to the GPU, I was still failing to boot with an "AGP error" beep code.

I had integrated graphics disabled in BIOS, so I reset the CMOS. I'm now running on integrated graphics, but I can't figure out how to get my GPU back online.

It is connected to a PCIe slot, the LED is the normal white color, the fans run, and it is connected to my monitor via DisplayPort. There is just a single beep (system ok) on boot.

However, it doesn't show under lspci and no nvidia modules are loaded. When I try to startx with my old xorg.conf (generated by nvidia-xconfig), it "can't find the display".

Am I missing some step to switch back to my GPU, or could I have ruined it by running with a partially dislodged power cable? Any diagnostic steps I can take?

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia GPU not detected after mishap

nvidia-xconfig is known to cause problems with hybrid graphics.  Try removing the config file nvidia-xconfig created and see if anything changes in the xorg log.

If I remove the config X starts with integrated graphics. The logs don't mention the GPU at all.

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia GPU not detected after mishap

Is there another slot on your motherboard that you could try plugging the card into?  Maybe if it couldn't get enough power from the power supply, it tried to get all its power from the pci-e port, which could have damaged it.  Other than a damaged card or slot I really don't know anything about hybrid graphics, so I'm afraid I'll have to step aside and let someone else take this one.

Have you another computer in which you can test your GPU?

Most stupid question: did you re-configure the BIOS appropriately?
I could imagine that if it initially detects a PCIe GPU, it switches to it/disables the IGP, but after the IGP got deliberately enabled, you'll have to disable it again?

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia GPU not detected after mishap

Sorry everyone, I'm an idiot. I opened up the case again to try the other PCIe slot, and realized the connection was loose on the PSU end. Everything is fine now.

Thanks for bearing with me and offering suggestions!

For the record, I only did this because Civ6 wouldn't use my GPU otherwise. Most (sane) apps seem to use the GPU without needing to disable IGP.
