Today I updated the system and now my printer HP_Color_LaserJet_MFP_M277dw doesn't work. It gives the reason "filter failed" and in the cups error log I find the following
Filter \"brftopagedbrf\" not found.
twice.
How to proceed? The printer worked fine yesterday, and I did as per the pacman's output after update.
warning: /etc/cups/cups-files.conf installed as /etc/cups/cups-files.conf.pacnew
Cups daemon is now running under "cups" user+group.
Please make sure to enable the new user+group change in
/etc/cups/cups-files.conf or merge changes from
/etc/cups/cups-files.conf.default. After a service restart
make sure /etc/cups and all files within are owned by
cups group - run "chgrp -R cups /etc/cups".
Of course, something may have been mishandled in applying the changes to /etc/cups/cups-files.conf
I have reinstalled cups-filters, hplip and ghostscript, installed foomatic-db and foomatic-db-ppsd, I am at a loss at the moment.
What kind of output do you need to see in order to help?
Where can I find \"brftopagedbrf\" ?

I don't really know the syntax of CUPS filter configuration files, but from that error message, I would conclude that somewhere it treats the quotes as part of the filter name.
So my guess is that somewhere in your configuration files, you have specified a filter name with quotes, whereas it should've been specified without quotes.

Ok, thanks! I'll have a look.

Do you have:
User 209
Group 209
in /etc/cups/cups-files.conf ?

I just checked that with diligence, and saw those values added, but with a # in front. They are now duly removed.

Excellent! After testing, the printer works again. Thank you very much, marking as solved.
I'll have to be more careful in the future with hash characters.

I also ran into an issue after updating.
Printing stopped working and I wasn't even able to shut the pc down, had to do a hard reboot.
But now the bootprocess stops after
[OK] Started CUPS scheduler.
What should I do now?

Same here. Setting the printer up newly in Cups made it work again.
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

Rickrock, you may want to start your own thread for your problem, as it doesn't seem to be the same one in this thread. It would get much more attention if you have your own thread.
