Canon PIXMA iP6000D

My printer is the IP6000D, a usb printer.  How do I go about getting it working?  Start at the very beginning because printing is not anything I've ever tried in Linux of any flavor.

Thanks

Re: Canon PIXMA iP6000D

Well, I've made some progress.  I started the CUPS daemon and now I can go to
http://localhost:631/

So I go into Add Printer, put in the description, location, etc.  Then in the device screen the pulldown shows Canon iP6000D USB #1!  Isn't USB great?
On the next screen I have to select a Make for the printer or provide a PPD file.  I assume that's going to be the problem?  Canon isn't listed in the Make list, and I don't have a PPD file.  Anyone know where I get one or what I use?

Thanks

Re: Canon PIXMA iP6000D

It might not be the answer you want to hear, but the only working solution is this:
http://www.turboprint.info/
I know it's commercial and not cheap, but so far it's the only way making most Canon Pixma's working under Linux- simply because Canon does not care issuing Linux drivers for their printers. They are some half baked ones at the japanese Canon site from time to time, but they should be classified as sort-of-working.
Greetings from a happy Pixma ip5000 user, who finally (after many too many efforts) purchased a Turboprint license...
