Just got an issue after a full upgrade (which completely broke graphics system).
Full error message:
/usr/bin/gtk-query-immodules-3.0: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libharfbuzz.so.0: undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var
error: command failed to execute correctly
( 5/11) Updating icon theme caches...
Downgrading harfbuzz to 1.7.4.1 solved the issue temporarily:
$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/harfbuzz-1.7.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

What version of freetype2?
Unsupported packages are unsupported.

Oops, (surprisingly) I was using freetype2-ttmetrics 2.9.2. Sorry.
Just installed std 'freetype2' package, upgraded harfbuzz and it worked perfectly.
Thanks

Temporary solution? If you're using an unsupported freetype2 package, either figure out how to manage it or stop using it.
