[SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

Hi,

2 problems that I do not know if those are related.

Since a week, I have lost my max resolution 2560x1080, I get only 1920x1080 detected.

When trying to update the package, I got conflict with some package

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

removing libxfont fixed the conflict issue but still stuck in 1920x1080 ...

The selection appears in KDE screen resolution settings ... but does not work
xrandr --output DVI-D-0 --mode "2560x1080_60.00"

xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed

I have the same problem. I'm removing libxfont to see if it's solving it. The resolution issue might be related to an old video card driver for you, I think.

After a reboot, it worked with 4K resolution

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

indeed removing libxfont worked ... for the resolution I am using open source driver so should be up to date unless there is a bug in latest mesa package (end of january)

So 2560x1080 not detected by default ... no problem under windows 10
Using DVI-D connection.

I tried to reduce frame rate to 50Hz ... did not help.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

There might be some problems with the new DC code added in  kernel 4.15, try booting with the kernel parameter

amdgpu.dc=0

Great thanks!

That was it.

What is this DC code about?

Proper support for HDMI/DP audio output is probably the biggest thing and afaik certain cards absolutely require it for display, but it seems to have problems with HIDPI / bigger resolutions in general.

Thanks for the explanation ... I will check if there is already a bug opened for the kernel.

Looks like you are hitting this already-filed-and-fixed bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103953

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

Thanks for point it out. I was anyway going to test it again when 4.16 hits the stable stage in few weeks.

Side question:
how do you know which bug list to check? For example when I got the hint this was related to kernel module, the kernel list sound logical ... I have no clue what is the scope for the actual freedesktop list ....

I didn't, found it through web searches on this bug's symptoms.

Here it is: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/describecomponents.cgi
Apparently, developers of this particular kernel module (amdgpu) are active in freedesktop.org bugtracker.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with wide resolution & latest X prackages [RX460] [KDE]

FYI

It seems it works out of the box with 4.16.3-1-ARCH. I did not have to set

amdgpu.dc=0
