[SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

I'm new to Arch Linux.

For a few days I have a problem with starting my X.org -> to Xfce via Lightdm
It has begun with an update from Kernel 4.14.15 to Kernel 4.15.1.2. I have waited a few days to Kernel 4.15.2-2 because the other one was flagged. Now I have the same problems.

Here are some log files. Thanks for your help.

Uname

Linux sven 4.15.2-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 8 18:54:52 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

Are you using an unsupported fontconfig?  Please post the output of `pacman -Qm`.

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

Yes it is an unsupported fontconfig:

 cower 17-2
nvidia-304xx-dkms 304.137-21
nvidia-304xx-utils 304.137-1
pacaur 4.7.10-1

The processor is an AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240

If that's true, the solution would be to install fontconfig from the repos.  But there are no fontconfig packages in your -Qm output.  Why did you say yes?

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

I did yes because I have read before I have installed this packages that they are unsupported. The mainboard is more than 6 years old with the graphic chip on it.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … ed_drivers

That is what I mean with unsupported.

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

If you know nvidia-304xx-dkms and nvidia-304xx-utils are unsupported and would not work with a 4.15 kernel without patching why have you left those packages installed?

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

Lspci | grep Ge

 00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … ed_drivers
-> "For GeForce 6/7 series cards [NV4x and NV6x], install the nvidia-304xx-dkmsAUR[broken link: archived in aur-mirror] package. Last supported Xorg version is 1.19"

Or can I use another nvidia driver?

I have begun with Kernel 4.14.xxxx. The installation of Arch Linux was on 01/01/2018.

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 4.15.2-2: Start failed to graphical log in prompt

Either remove the nvidia packages and use nouveau instead.  If for some reason nouveau does not work then you could try patching nvidia-304xx until the next major X release which I would expect would make the driver incompatible.

I have removed it and could start to Xfce. Then I must live with it, that the display stutters when I click onto the buttons.
