Poor graphics with Aspeed 2400 VGA graphics chipset

Hi,

I have a machine with a SuperMicro X10DRG motherboard, which has an Aspeed 2400 providing VGA graphics. I also have an NVidia Tesla K40 installed, but that does not have a graphics output. When lightdm-gtk-greeter launches, the graphics seem to work fine, but once I pass that screen every big screen refresh rolls down the screen and takes a second or two - ie opening a new file or scrolling in firefox. The mouse movement is fine.

My system is up to date - I'm currently using the linux-rt-lts kernel, but the issue persists in the standard Arch kernel. I have installed the nvidia-dkms driver for the Tesla GPU, and it appears the ast kernel module is my driver for the Aspeed graphics. Relevant output from lspci -k:

06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ASPEED Technology, Inc. ASPEED Graphics Family (rev 30)
Subsystem: Super Micro Computer Inc ASPEED Graphics Family
	Kernel driver in use: ast
	Kernel modules: ast

Here is my xorg settings for the GPU (initially set up by the nvidia-dkms install),  and log:
