repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

Nvidia-304xx-ck-kx won't load module due to exec format error, and no such package in the repository to upgrade to or downgrade to.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

@nomorewindows - Thanks for reporting.  Building 4.15.4 now and will refresh with that... should be an hour or two.

EDIT: Done.  Please `pacman -Syyu`

304xx was dropped and would need patching for 4.15.
Edit:
@graysky seems ck has dropped bfq-mq and associated patches also he still has not responded to the pull for 4.14.15 as I never seem to get any response from him
not sure if I should send him updated versions or not.  As there is no bfq-sq anymore linux-ck users wanting bfq should beware of https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/57496

What's the replacement? Just nvidia?

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

If your card is not compatible with the nvidia or nvidia-340xx drivers then nouveau or I could try and make you a patch for 304xx
which should last until the next major update to X or 4.16 which currently is incompatible with all nvidia drivers.

Please post the whole of the pacman output.  As 304xx-ck-kxx has been dropped the package on your system will not be updated but will not be removed either.

Confused... 304xx has been discontinued upstream weeks ago.  Is that a scarcastic jab?

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

I have a Linux Mint installation over some dependency hell that I was chrooting into from Arch.  It still has a nvidia-304 in the repos.  So if 304 is being dropped on Arch this maybe all I can do for now.  I'll probably just use Mint for it.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

It was just pacman -Syu and the above message stating that it is nvidia-304xx-ck-kx and linux-4.15.1-1.  There's nothing in pacman.log other than that.
It would be upgrading linux-ck-kx from 4.14.18-1, maybe there is another package in between the two?

Looking through Xorg.0.log, it wasn't even using nouveau, it was using vesa.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

Remove nvidia-304xx-ck-kx and nvidia-304xx-utils then try the upgrade again.
Edit:
If it still fails check for any other nvidia packages still installed and post the new output of pacman.

It's the nvidia-304xx-ck-kx package that requires the linux kernel to be below 4.15, so as long as I stay with the 4.14 I'm not sure this will help any.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

Ah I thought you wanted to update to 4.15.  Also not sure why the nvidia-304xx-ck-kx package would have a dependency on linux rather than linux-ck-kxx.
https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … a-304xx-ck shows only dependencies on linux-ck not linux.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

I've been wondering why my nvidia was broken for possibly two weeks...the last update to nvidiaxxxxx was back in January it appears.  One installation goes on vesa, and the onther one won't bring up X.  I had a Linux Mint installation for another different dependency hell that apparently only works on Mint 17.

So what is the output of

pacman -Qi linux-ck-kxx #to see what it lists as dependencies
pacman -Qi nvidia-304xx-ck-kx #to see what it lists as dependencies

Can you do a full update now without pacman refusing due to dependencies?
Which kernel do you want to use if there were no dependency issues linux-ck which is now on 4.15 or linux-lts for 4.14 etc.

The nvidia-304xx-ck-kxx package is not built for linux-ck-kxx 4.14.18 so in dmesg you should see warnings about the mismatch for module nvidia and the module will not be used.
Also matches with your system switching to vesa or not starting X.  So nvidia-304xx-ck-kx 304.137-11 is of no use to you but prevents the update to linux-ck-kx 4.15.
nvidia-304xx-utils is also of no use unless you have some other nvidia-304xx driver and matching kernel that work.

With the answers to those questions plus probably the output of the following I can suggest some possible ways to resolve the issue.

Re: repo-ck package discussion split from linux-ck repo thread

It's a Nvidia 6150SE GeForce 450, which I checked again on Nvidia's site falls under the 304xx which I have been using.
And there's not even a driver for linux-lts either.
Don't want to use the direct download from Nvidia as I remember.
