Can't mount external hard drive

But if I try to access the hdd, for example mount it, the running hangs. Ctrl-C doesn't work. It is possible to stop the execution, only through disconnecting of the drive.

However, it successfully opens in Windows.

How can I restore access to drive?

Start again. How is the drive formatted (fat?ntfs?)? How do you mount it? Post the exact command you input.

If it's through a file manager, are you using gvfs?

How do you mount it? Post the exact command you input.

sudo mount /dev/sdb /mnt
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt

No response for each command. ^C doesn't help.

I don't understand the question likely, sorry. Did I use Nautilus? No. I also didn't use GVFS directly.

Back to the original issue does the system use any power management system?

After reboot, if I correctly understood the question. And the drive was disconnected during reboot, because if it is connected, the system is freezing until disconnecting.

Everything looks fine in dmesg.  Has the HDD ever successfully mounted on the computer that now runs Arch?  If so, under what OSes?

Please share output of the following commands, after plugging in the drive just like at 114.961197.

  • lsusb

  • lsblk

  • sudo parted -l

  • sudo ls -la /mnt

"sudo fdisk -l" may be used as an alternative to the parted command.

Generally, the raw device (/dev/sdb) is not mountable.  Use partitions (/dev/sdb1) as you do in the other two commands.
