zita-resampler 1.6.0-1 -> 2 update requires manual intervention

Isn't it also possible to reinstall the package using the --force option?

Potentially, but casually throwing about the --force option when there are much more controlled and fine-grained solutions will almost always lead to the advice for the specific solution being given.

Someone might misread it and simply run -Syu --force and that is going to end bad is hopefully something that I don't have to explain.

Thanks for your reply. Of course pacman -Syu --force would be wrong but I just executed pacman -S zita-resampler --force and now I am afraid of making a mistake... Did I? Or is it okay in this case?

I think whenever there is an announcement about something like this, better to stick to the suggestions announced.
For instance, in this case:

If you installed 1.6.0-1, ldconfig would have created this symlink at install time, and it will conflict with the one included in 1.6.0-2. In that case, remove /usr/lib/libzita-resampler.so.1 manually before updating.

You're fine, using --force for that one file in that one package would have no bad effects
