Hi Archwiki.
I'm trying to find a way to install MySQL5.6 rather than MariaDB as my sql server.
I'm just trying to maintain parity with my work environment, where we use debian desktops. I have to make some accomodations in my databases using MariaDB (191 max varchars, no 'json' type [yes I know it's just an alias for data or longtext, but that doesn't really help] )
I've checked yaourt, but their mysql package also seems to be MariaDB.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers.

There is mysql56 in the AUR.
yaourt doesn't have any packages at all, it is only an AUR helper.

Mod note: moving to AUR Issues.

Hi - I was wondering if you were able to get 5.6 installed? I have started a project recently that requires MySQL 5.6.

This is kind of a Necro bump. But I do have to ask -- what features of MySQL 5.6 are missing from Maria that you cannot use Maria?

mrunion, the OP specified that well in the first post: varchar lengths and json types. As for the other bump by arthurcanal, why do you think you'd get a different answer: it's in the AUR, install it. The package has a handful of votes, no comments about problems, and is not flagged out of date. If you are having trouble installing it, describe your trouble - but if you just haven't tried what do you expect us to do for you here?

Thanks Trilby. I did not read thoroughly enough. Makes sense.
