gdm randomly won't start

Hello,

I am having an issue with gdm. When I turn on my computer gdm sometimes doesn't start. Unfortunately, I am unable to have logs when it happens since I am forced to reboot my computer the hard way because it is completely frozen. There are no logs in /var/log/gdm when there are no problems.

I don't have any graphic cards. I only run on the integrated graphic card from my cpu (intel i7 8700k). I have a pc, not a laptop.

Concerning the drivers here are the ones I installed:

  • intel-ucode 20180108-1

  • mesa 17.3.6-1

  • vulkan-intel 17.3.6-1

  • xf86-video-intel 1:2.99..917+812+g75795523-1

  • mesa 17.3.6-1

Here are the xorg packages:

  • xorg-drivers

  • xorg-apps

  • xorg-fonts

  • xorg

All those xorg packages are up to date, latest version.

And here are the gdm packages:

  • gdm 3.26.2.1-1

  • libgdm 3.26.2.1-1

And here is the gnome package:

I maybe thought it could have come from the linux kernel so installed the latest version (4.14.23-1) of the lts version.

Other information that may be useful:

Update
I have tried to wait longer and it seems it just takes a very long time for gdm to launch. Otherwise when it works fine, it doesn't take any time to launch itself.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: gdm randomly won't start

Is it frozen, or will GDM just not start? Can you access a TTY?

Re: gdm randomly won't start

Thank you for your quick response.

To answer your question both. It is completely frozen, GDM won't start and I am unable to access a TTY.
