[SOLVED] r8188eu driver module switch

Hi everyone.
I've bought TP-LINK TL-WN722N (v2) and encountered a problem with stock driver (r8188eu). Well, it seems like it doesn't support monitor mode. I found different forks which does (Like lwfinger's one).
How can I fully remove its stock driver? Can you gave some articles about driver management in linux?

Please update your title to something that actually reflects your issue.

If you want to install and use an alternative module you can blacklist the one that is currently being used: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … acklisting

Re: [SOLVED] r8188eu driver module switch

To install the driver, I suggest your look at the PKGBUILD for rtl8188eu-dkms-git in the AUR and adapt it to your needs.
Edit: This still requires blacklisting.

Re: [SOLVED] r8188eu driver module switch

1. I've added a blacklist record. Rebooted. No wifi, ok, everything clear.
2. Compiled  lwfinger's driver and installed it. Rebooted.
3. Got wifi working, but:
    * Still don't see my dongle in "iw dev" output.
    * iw [interface = wlp0s20u1] scan gives me "command failed: No such device (-19), as earlier"
    * Can't get into the monitor mode.
I'll test another driver soon

Re: [SOLVED] r8188eu driver module switch

If you have two different modules for the same device, then you should blacklist one of them and keep it blacklisted. Otherwise the kernel might choose the "wrong" one.

Nice. Thank you guys for your help, I really appreciate it.
So, the solution was to install mrfuba's driver. Now it works! Thanks to all of you!

Re: [SOLVED] r8188eu driver module switch

rtl8xxxu is another driver you could try. It is the "new" in kerne driver for those devices. But if you solved the problem, please mark the thread as such.
