[SOLVED] Skype sound issues

Hello,

I have a similar to this topic problem. But I have pulseaudio-alsa installed, I have set up redirection in asound.conf, I have "default device" chosen in Skype settings. Neither speakers nor microphone work. Can you help me to investigate this problem?

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

Unfortunately I can't help you. What I can say is that skype is now a CrapOS product and is known to have issues on unsupported platforms.. I did struggle with it for quite some time (no input sound sometimes, no output sound sometimes, not remembering configs..) and just got tired of it. What I would suggest is looking for some alternatives. I can suggest mumble, qtox/utox or whatever and even discord.
Here is something you might find useful I came across on reddit (if you decide to ditch skype) this is a permalink of a comment and if you are interested the whole discussion is here
Cheers!

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

I would be glad not to use Skype, but I need it for my work. And currently when I need to make a call I launch the web version of Skype, but when I need to chat I use the desktop version (because the web version has a lot of glitches) smile

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

Can you repost those outputs during actual playback attempts, or is that already all you are getting? Can you post a

pacmd list-sinks
amixer -c0
dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|hda|alsa'

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

yktor, you should at least try skypeforlinux-preview-bin which is a slightly later version, currently 8.16.76.1. You never know, they may have fixed your bug.

PS Edit: skypeforlinux-preview-bin updated  to 8.16.76.8 since I posted.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

The list-sink-inputs and list-source-outputs and fuser are also relevant, as well as while we are at it

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

Otherwise if none of the other suggestions work for you and skype really is a must and you need to use it from an arch host I would suggest you go and install a skype-supported environment in a VM (I believe Ubuntu have support for it, maybe even debian). If you have good hardware specs you can even use it in a VM with Win guest. If you don't have that good specs I can suggest getting a minimal install ubuntu ISO and inside a VM install it with only some basic shitt like DE, skype, dependencies (obviously), set-up firewall and audio/video drivers config and you're good to go.
Cheers!

EDIT: I remember somewhere I read about a platform through which you can use all of your messaging apps - skype, viber, discord, etc. People were saying about skype and this mysterious platform that it actually has a more decent performance.
Tthe only problem is I really can't seem to remember how it was called. If I do remember I will post here or send you a mail. Good luck!

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

@stolichniaskitnik
If it's a hardware issue it won't matter if it is skype, ubuntu or anything else for that matter, if it is a configuration issue we're here to figure that out. There's nothing that would prevent skype from working on Arch and it does for many people.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues

@V1del for me it did work in the beginning but the it stopped most likely I did something wrong. Will be waiting to see if a solution is found.
