[SOLVED] VLC 3.0.1 won't play bluray

Hi, I updated VLC from vlc-git to vlc stable now that 3.0.1 is released. Before I could play blurays normally, but now when I try to play a blu-ray I get "Missing AACS configuration file" error in VLC. I have a .config/aacs/KEYDB.cfg present. So I tried running vlc from command line and there it wrote "aacs.c:111: No usable AACS libraries found!" but I have all 'libbluray', 'libaacs' and 'libbdplus' installed. Can I fix this somehow?

For some reason it started working after I opened the disc in MakeMKV ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Freakish thing, mine had been working but after the latest updated stopped as well. Happened upon your post and gave it a whirl. It does indeed open now once it's open in makemkv.

I can't play blurays anymore since the day the makemkv trial period expired. This is REALLY NASTY (EVIL) !
How can I play blurays with vlc alone ? Somehow it seems that you need to get makemkv to be able to play blurays...wtf.

Re: [SOLVED] VLC 3.0.1 won't play bluray

You can't. blurays have DRM which protects them from being played back with "unlicensed" players. You might want to read through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blu-ray for a quick overview of how it works.

Also please don't bump year old solved threads, open up your own if you want to discuss this further (though do not ask for ways to attempt to circumvent these restrictions https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … t#Legality  )

Closing.
