Hi,
lately when booting my Dell XPS 13 (9343), I've been seeing the following set of messages:
[ 5.910827] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.910937] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.911301] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.911361] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.911420] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.911479] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
[ 5.911771] dell_smbios: No dell-smbios drivers are loaded
And after boot this is what ls mod shows:
lsmod | grep dell
dell_wmi 16384 0
sparse_keymap 16384 1 dell_wmi
dell_smbios_wmi 16384 0
dell_wmi_descriptor 16384 2 dell_wmi,dell_smbios_wmi
dell_smbios_smm 16384 0
dell_laptop 24576 1
dell_smbios 16384 4 dell_wmi,dell_laptop,dell_smbios_wmi,dell_smbios_smm
dcdbas 16384 1 dell_smbios_smm
led_class 16384 3 iwlmvm,input_leds,dell_laptop
rfkill 28672 8 bluetooth,dell_laptop,cfg80211
wmi 28672 4 dell_wmi,wmi_bmof,dell_wmi_descriptor,dell_smbios_wmi
i8042 32768 1 dell_laptop
Everything appears to be working normally but I'm wondering if there is something going wrong.
Can I just ignore the message?
Is there something I have to fix/install to load the required drivers before dell_smbios gets called?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Doing it the Linux way since 1997 and Arch way since 2015 (and loving it!)

Is your BIOS updated? I was getting similar messages on my Dell Latitude E6530 laptop until I updated the BIOS last night. This jump took me from a 2013 to 2017 updated BIOS. It looks like your BIOS updates would be easier than mine as well!
You can install dmidecode to check your BIOS version with your computer still running. More thorough instructions on updating (flashing) your BIOS are at this Archwiki page.
If you go to download it, be sure to enter your service tag at the Dell website to find the right BIOS update. I've read that different computer setups may have different needs, even within the same basic product (but I can't find that link again).
