[Solved]startx not loading xorg

I have a laptop that I have installed Arch on a while back with no problems. I have tried to install again and this time I can't get startx to bring up twm or fluxbox. The one thing that I noticed was different between this time and the last is the video driver choices when using pacman to install xorg-server.

Re: [Solved]startx not loading xorg

parse_vt_settings: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (Permission denied)

never seen that before.

does /home/b/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log show more info ?

What is in your ~/.xinitrc ?

post dmesg and/or journal please.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: [Solved]startx not loading xorg

Looks like a failed attempt of rootless X11?

Re: [Solved]startx not loading xorg

Well that did it. Thanks.

These leaves me with other questions. Like before I edited that file and it still had twm followed by xterm and such, and it still wouldn't load and it was frustrating me... what was wrong then? It gave errors that xterm and xclock and such was not found, but should it still have loaded twm?

If you want to know what's wrong with a script, post the script ;-)

That is precisely what was wrong.

If you do not give Xorg something to do, it will happily do nothing and exit.  Do you have twm installed?  Even if you do, if you don't have xterm installed, the default xinitrc will exit immediately as xterm is what keeps the session alive.

Re: [Solved]startx not loading xorg

Yes I had twm installed, but not the others, so that was the issue at that point. That's for clearing that part up. Then I decided that they may be the problem and edited them out without removing the fork.

I've learned more by things not going right than I did installing Arch in the past and everything going fine.
